I just got a cheap Acer LCD monitor for my file server room...nothing fancy. From BestBuy. It is model AL1716F. No matter whether it is plugged into the computer or not, when the unit first powers on I see horizontal lines moving all over the screen (and flicking on and off) with the screen looking, well, a bit crazy. After about 2 mins all is ok and LCD is fine....is this a major problem. Should I get a new one? I have always used CRT so I have no clue on LCD.

thanks

Hi!when the unit first powers on I see horizontal lines moving all over the screen (and flicking on and off) with the screen looking, well, a bit crazy. That is not normal startup behavior for an LCD monitor.

At most, there should first be an info screen stating that it's seeking a VGA connection and then a momentary information screen regarding colors and resolution

I'd suggest you return and exchange it...

If you purchased it at a brick and mortar location, perhaps they can show you how a display model starts up.

(Thanks for your support ;>} )

I agree, unless you purchased an extended warranty you should return it right away as defective. I've never seen an LCD that takes more than a second or two to come on and be fully usable, or at least display its start-up logo without any weird-looking stuff.
