View Full Version : AutoGK - Is this how I make Hi-Def xvids?

I've been converting my DVDs to avi's for a while now & I want to try converting HD movies to xvids.
I open the HD mpeg or .ts file in AutoGK, & set everything the same as I do for normal DVDs, except I set the width to 1920.
The result looks really good, but I don't know if I'm doing the correct thing.
Should I be converting to a different format, like mkv? Is it as easy as AutoGK?

AutoGK is for ease-of-use more than quality. There are plenty of other apps that are nearly as easy to use and will yield better results, or you can go for something with a steep learning curve and get videos that will blow away anything AutoGK can do.

The format (.AVI or .MKV) will make no difference on the quality of the video. That is only the container and has nothing to do with how the video was encoded.

Thanks. I was advised at videohelp.com to try MeGUI & convert to h.264, so I'll give that a try.
Any others?
