Hello,
if I have jobs for a video encoding in x264 or xivd queued can I stop the encoding before the 2nd pass and continue the rest of jobs another day?
I mean what does exactly the 1st pass do? Does it save some file somewhere temporarily?

yes, it saves a text file to your computer. you should be fine in running the second pass at a later date.
