What is "H.264/AVC (MPEG-4 Part 10) Pro "

As the title says , what is the "Pro" part ? Anyone heard of this .

Its a codec Mainconcept included in their latest product "MainConcept Reference" .

They say its supposed to have superior quality . Does it really have superior quality as compared to x264 encoder ?

From the description of the standard edition:
In contrast to the Pro version Reference H.264/AVC offers a limited set of features, such as a single instance at the time only, support for just one physical CPU, availability only for ConstQ and VBR rate control modes, and a maximum bitrate up to 20 MBit per second.

officially there is no ""H.264/AVC (MPEG-4 Part 10) Pro/Not Pro". this is a mainconcept-centric naming for their products

The biggest difference ofcourse x264 is free and Mainconcept/Elecard isn't, also a difference is how both handle film grain and how the aq is tuned Mainconcept/Elecard can preserve a visble grain patern @ low bitrate without useing FGT/FGM.
x264 still has some ways to go here and also Blu-Ray and HD-DVD interoperability still need some work (Mainconcept/Elecard wins), else ther'e more or less identical.
That's also most probably what the 4th anual MSU test will show a very close race in favour of Mainconcept/Elecard ;)
