Going at 27FPS one-pass on my 3GHz Core 2 Duo. That does NOT seem right for this CPU, as AutoMKV gets a solid 40FPS with the iPod setting. Using Handbrake, here are my options:
keyint=300:keyint-min=30:bframes=0:cabac=0:ref=3:mixed-refs=1:bime=1:vbv-maxrate=1500:vbv-bufsize=2000:analyse=all:8x8dct=all:me=umh:me-range=16:subme=5:no-fast-pskip=1:filter=0,0:trellis=1

Yes, there are some strange options in there - I'm doing this for my 6G iPod.

27 FPS sounds okay to me ;)

On my Core2 Quad Q6600 I get ~12 fps with SLOW settings and ~45 fps with FAST settings for "normal" TV material...
(all 4 cores at 100% load of course)

Change ME to hex--you have --subme at 5, and --subme 5 to 6 gives more of a boost for less speed cost than ME from hex to umh, so using umh with --subme 5 is pointless.

No-fast-pskip is somewhat unnecessary with those low settings also.
