Nero 8 Recode Changes (?)

Ok - I'll ask the original question again:

Does anyone know the differences between Recode versions in Nero7 vs. Nero8 ?

Speed enhancements? Feature enhancements? Bugfixes?

(*excluding the probable "Recode3" update at the end of the year)

Firstly a few more options under the advanced settings menu's that were not present before (see attached gif recode_1.gif and recode_2.gif)

Secondly it's waaaay faster I use HDTV with extra quality and 2-passes at 750k with 5.1 HE @192k and a Nero 7 encode was around 3.5 hours I just completed a movie under Nero 8 with the same settings and it took 52 minutes!! and the CPU utilization was around 20-25% lower than with Nero 7!!

I watched the recode and it looks as good as anything I converted under Nero 7, I plan on trying a few more films just ensure that I'm not missing anything

Oh and no problems with the LFE channel this time :rolleyes:

That's just MPEG-4, though, not the AVC encoder that this thread's concerned about.

Opps I knew I missed something :rolleyes: It's been so long that I've been using my default profile I forgot to change it to AVC on the first try :o After a closer look the quality is not as good (Of course) I looked again and under AVC (this time) the options look exactly the same. sorry but I'll let you know if the encoding time is better after I finish a few movies....

Took the exact same time as before and the quaility was exactly the same it looked maybe a tiny bit better for the macroblocking but hard to say.

The one change I like is when you hit the 'Burn' button it no longer opens the Nero Webpage!

Do you know if Nero is still going out of sync when encoding? I was using the LFE version (nero 7) for my encodes, but noticed that a certian % of them would go out of sync and then come back into sync. Unfortunately i didnt notice until after i had done 50 encodes, with perhaps 8 bad ones :(. Using staxrip/x264 produced no problems. As they would go in/out of sync it meant i had to throw away all the encodes and start again, as it was just too time consuming to check every 2-3 minutes of each film. (i posted about the issue in the forum, but nobody from nero commented)

Also is the moov atom at the start of the file on AVC encodes through nero? Ive been encoding video using x264 HQ insane mode, to play back through the new adobe flash player. With x264 the moov atom is at the beginning so you can start watching the file immediately......with nero 7 recode its at the end of the file, so you have to wait till the whole file is downloaded before it will play :(

there is new update (8.1.1.0) of Nero but no change log yet. Maybe you should try it to see if it fixes your sync issue.

the movie box ("moov") is at the end of files created by Recode 2. It will be in the beginning of files created with Recode 3.

As Mgz asks - has anyone seen a changelog for the latest Nero8 (8.1.1.0, with Recode now at 2.10.0.0)

a question about recode: since it accepts avs files now - how do I tell recode to set aspect ratio flag in mp4? Or is it that it always assumes square pixels during encoding?

Yes it always assumes square pixels during encoding!

setting AR flag - hint: remux Recode's AVC MP4 into the mp4box's MP4. When I said remux, I've meant demux original Recode's MP4 to the elementary stream and than mux it into mp4box's mp4 with appropriate PAR signal.

note: there's some odd thing upon playback if you perform adding Recode's MP4 directly into mp4box's MP4 (with PAR flag), without having intermediate elementary stream.

You can turn of the square pixel in Nero Recode and it will set the correct PAR flag. Just uncheck the Letterboxing under Resize and you will have a mp4 file in nero with PAR signal.

Unless I'm missing something - how would the recode know what PAR to use if there's no way to enter it?
