Hey,
I have a couple of movies which are in mpg and also mpeg format.
I would like to take a 20min part out of the movie, which means I need to split it.
I'm looking for a software that would do it as simple as it could be, I dont want to mess aroung with SVCD, VCD, Bitrate and all those settings.
I just want it to cut a part from the movie and save it with all the settings the original file has.
Just like the program Avidemux does (just for avi files..) if anyone knows it..
Thanks alot ! ;)

You're looking for click/start, click/end, click/split?

use virtualdub, i'm tired of download each single program for each task like that
just select the part you want to cut, then copy, and save as avi
(use virtualdub-mpeg2 btw, it can open meg)

@Somebla
Hi!
1) Try either MPEG2Cut.exe or ChopperXP
2) The suggestion made by "cross_syd" is not applicable to your question, since it will result in an .AVI file, rather than the MPEG format you wish to retain...

An excellent and easy-to-use tool is Ulead Video studio. Good luck

no, all other suggestion sux (good one like ulead, premiere to expensive, and impossible to have cracked, i tried lol)
if you wish to retain mpeg codec, just frameserve it to mpeg
encoder like tmpgenc, super in the future will also support frameserver (then you will able to convert to every types)

cross_syd, you don't understand the question at all. Cutting and re-encoding are totally different, cutting being significantly faster and completely lossless. Re-encoding just to trim or split something is a waste.
The three already mentioned along with mpeg2schnitt and cuttermaran can all do the job. mpeg2schnitt requires system streams though, which means demuxing via dgindex or similar first, and isn't really best for this case.

cros_syd--When I opened up the Noobs forum yesterday, you'd responded to nearly every thread on the first page. Some of your advice was helpful, but to use your phraseology, some of it sucked. Stick to what you know well and can detail to the noobs, and don't be so rude in the future.
References to cracking commercial software are taboo, this will get you into trouble around here, and quickly.

Thank you all for your help, but no program mentioned above did the work..
VirtualDub is not good because it saves only as avi, and to start frameserving and using in addtion a 3rd program is, as said by foxyshadis, a waste.
ChopperXP only opens vob files and I need to open mpg\mpeg files.
MPEG2Cut opend the movie but didnt display no preview, and I could play the movie or choose from where to where I would like to cut.
I didnt mange with Stream Trimmer because there was no preview display, and it isnt really comfortable to start calculating from minutes to milisecondes.
Ulead Video Studio is really big and fat (plus costs alot of money) i'm looking for a simple (maybe open source) program to do a really simple task.
Cuttermaran opens only mpv, m1v & m2v files..
I really do appreciate everyones help.. but as far as i know those programs wont do the job..
Maybe someone could recommend me a different program .. ?
Thanks again.

maybe some suggestions in http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=121907 might be of use to you.
Knowledgeable Pookie consistently recommends VideoRedo (not free) although there may be an outstanding query over whether it does re-encoding vs stream copying.
Others (I'm guessing) are apparently newer versions of Mpeg2Cut2, HDTV2mpeg2, Womble.
Be pleased if you'd let us know how you go, as I'm contemplating trying VideoRedo.

I bought VideoRedo. Happy so far. Looks a lot like a fancy Mpeg2Schnitt.
