Lately, I noticed my videos are a bit blocky and low quality and I decided to check on the filters chain and found out that my videos are rendered using VMR-7 mode instead of Overlay Mixer, which is specified in the player. I have tried reinstalling my video drivers with both the latest and previous versions of the drivers, updated DirectX to the newest updates available, but still, I see no improvement in the issue.

While in Windows Media Player, the problems also exist. I have tried switching between Overlay Mode and High Performance Mode in the Performance Settings but nothing changes. I am sure its not rendered in Overlay because the snapshots I capture has the videos captured too.

I am using Windows XP SP2, K-Lite Codec Pack 3.40, nVidia GeForce FX 5200 with the driver downgraded to 91.47 from the newest release. tried playing using Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player 11, ZoomPlayer, and BSPlayer.

I appreciate anyone who is kind enough to help me troubleshoot this problem, thank you very much.

something weird happened to me too. the video was playing correctly while windowed while i got a black frame in fullscreen. i tried different video drivers but nothing. updated ffdshow and MPC... nothing. tried different versions... noting...
all other renderers were working but i wanted overlay coz it's faster. after about a week it of tryouts swapping softwares versions, chipset and video drivers, it suddenly started to work again... and it's still working... and im still switching software and drivers versions to understand what the heck caused that...
Windows weirdness...
