Issue converting to WMV9 with SP profile.

Trying to convert files to play on an iRiver X20. The pic on the left is what GSpot shows when I convert via the iRiver software. The one on the right is as close as I have managed to get to it, I think I used Super.

Trouble is the iRiver convertor doesn't allow converting from .VOB, so I will have to rip the DVD, then Xvid, then iRiver, that's a real hassle.

So I am trying to use TmpgEnc (actually will try anything if anyone has any suggestions) but there is no way of changing the template thingy. I tried Power Toy, forced SP, did nothing.

Obvious question, can I change the template to SP, can it be done in Tmpg, or Super or is there a simpler way to get from a .VOB into the pic on the left that works.

A picture may well speak a thousand words, but I can tell you that you're encoding to Main Profile (MP) as opposed to Simple Profile (MP). You came pretty damn close with everything else, so well done! :) You just need to make that conform. Something you set with WMV Powertoy must have made it MP.

With version 1.2.1.0, I get these options you CAN use with WMV9 encoder (ideally, use Windows Media Encoder 9 with a PRX profile as wmcmd.vbs can screw with your settings sometimes):

EDIT: Feck, I know whatcha need... WMV9 VCM codec, and make sure the settings you use are SP and conform with the WMV Powertoy settings. WMV9 VCM won't use the WMV Powertoy settings, just make sure they correlate! ;)

Just to note, according to this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1042676#post1042676), Adaptive True Chroma doesn't work.

The oher thing you should do when encoding to SP is to specify B-Frames=0. There's a bug in FSDK 11 where you can accidentally turn on B-frame flash compensation with another key like Lookahead which will cause a B-frame to go into a SP stream, which makes it invalid. Specifying B-frame as 0 prevents that.

To be clear: PowerToy settings don't affect the decision of whether the output will be encoded as SP or MP - that's entirely up to the encoder app. The profile conformance button in PowerToy merely makes sure that the settings you use are compatible with the target profile. If you accidentally enable an MP setting in PowerToy, that won't force WME9 to use Main Profile instead - it will typically just mean that the setting will get ignored.

To generate SP streams you must set "Simple Profile" in your encoding application. In WME9 this is set under "Decoder complexity" in the profile definition (Compression - Edit).
