Problem with decrypting We Were Soldiers HD DVD

Hi!

Its strange. I bought We Were soldiers (germany), but Powerdvd ultra wont play it. It says that a critical component needs an update, but If I want to update it, it crashes. So I thought I just decrypt it and maybe that works. I tried DVDFab HD, it cant read the disc. (Yes, I got the udf drivers). I tried dumphd. although aacskeys gives me a volume and title key, dumphd says its invalid. At last, I tried the already posted key, and dumhd cant find the title with this key.
So... what now? Spent my money for nothing? :)

Have you checked to see if your original HD DVD plays properly on a standalone HD DVD player?

If it doesn't return it to the place of purchase in exchange for a new replacement...

No, I dont know anybody with a standalone player.

I also noticed that aacskey gives just 0's as a title key (or some other key), and I just read that this is an indicator for a revoked player key or something?

Uhmm, DumpHD does not validate any keys, you maybe made a typo, check the entry in the key database, maybe you missed a character or there is one too much or so.

Most probably because the released key is from the us version.

If there is a key that is all zero than its the Volume ID. This indeed means that your drive has been upgraded to MKBv3 and the Host Certificate used by aacskeys does not work any more. But aacskeys 0.2.8 can still retrieve the Volume ID if you use the XBox 360 HD-DVD drive ;). Otherwise you have to use DumpVID while the disc is played back in PowerDVD to get the VolumeID.

Okay, using dumpvid while playing back wont work because power dvd doesnt play without an update and crashes while trying to update.
I indeed use the xbox drive. how do I retrieve proper keys with 0.2.8? I already use both, the xbox drive and aacskeys 0.2.8, but the keys it retrieves seem not to work.

I tried aacskeys with a new processing key from a thread here. now I seem to get a real volume ID key, but the VUK still does not work.

What do you mean with "the VUK still does not work"? Do you get crap files that do not play? You can check if the VUK is correct with validateVUK (in the sticky thread).

the program backuphddvd tells me "invalid volume unique key" :)

will try validateVUK later.

edit: my bad. I used the processing key as the volume ID key, no surprise that the VUK wouldnt work.
Okay, right now Im back at: Volume ID is all zero, nothing works :)

What result? the patch installation crashes? or you successfully updated to latest version but still comes up the message about a crtitical update needed?
When i messed a little with modified aacs disks, powerdvd came out with similar messages, i mean, if some component is missing or not ok, it does not output an error, but instead a message to update.

this (http://www.ingenieria-inversa.cl/files/vid.rar) will extract the volumeID regardless of the host/drive certs (you have to cut off some initial bytes, don't remember how many), but if you see all 00 it means the drive was not able to read it from disk.

Does anyone has this title working without these problems?

Do you have another disc to test vid with?
Whats the firmware version of your drive (aacskeys reports it).

I remember that someone had the same problem with another movie (Relentless Enemies maybe? Can't remember.) which had a mastering error, it was not possible to get the Volume ID. I think he was able to get the first half of the Volume ID with DumpVID (not in hammering mode), maybe you can try this to see if your disc has the same error.

yeah, I tested it with 300, and that worked perfectly.

Which line shows the firmware?

Dumpvid would still not work because I am not able to play this disc :)

I would say 99% mastering error or scratched disc on the inner part near the hole.

Run aacskeys in verbose mode, then you will find the firmware version in the line Drive FW info, but the firmware is not the problem, because it works with 300. As Geremia said, the problem is the disc. You can still try the original version of DumpVID, it does NOT need the player to play the disc (in normal, not hammering mode), but in this mode it can give you only the first half of the VID. If it fits a known VID scheme you can try to guess the second half. Otherwise your only hope is to return the disc and hope to get a working one, but in case of a mastering error this is rather unlikely :(.

I returned it and got a new one, this one works. Vid reads a volumeID and Pdvd also plays it without any problems.

I might have just discovered why the hd dvd didnt work on one machine. Even the new one didnt work on one machine, which had ReClock installed.
I just had severe problems with my new Heroes Season 1 HD DVD, and after uninstalling ReClock, it all worked perfectly.
