I'm trying create an avi file with subtitles using autoGK 2.40.

1. I selected the original avi file.

2. Hit ctrl + F8 to open the sub input option and selected the .idx file.

3. In the audio track, there is only this: 128 kbps MPEG-1/2 L3 2ch, which I selected.

4. I run the preview - the film plays with the subtitles. But there is no sound in the preview.

5. I run the job and there is an error: Exception: Unsupported Audio Type.

The job will proceed if I do not select the audio track. But then there is no sound when I play the new avi file (with the subtitles). (I watch the avi file on VLC on the computer.)

How do I get both the sound and the subtitles?

Thanks for your help.

Hi-

The MP3 audio I've seen that AutoGK couldn't handle had low sample rates, 22,050 Hz and other similar garbage. If that's the case, convert it outside of AutoGK and add it back to the finished audio-less AVI. Or maybe it's corrupt somehow, and there's no hope. But I'd first try to demux and reencode it myself, if I were you.

The audio is 48,000 Hz 128 kb/s CBR Stereo. It sounds fine on the avi. Any suggestions for another program that can combine an avi and external subs?

Thanks

VirtualDubMod can do it, but the subs won't be hard-coded, if that's what you're after.

Hi-

Yes, I think he does want hardcoded subs, as he's using the CTRL-F8 trick to get them into the AVI. He should already have hardcoded subs coming out of AutoGK (unless he deleted the AVI). Correct me if I'm wrong, Diaboyos. So, demux the audio from the original AVI, and then add it into the new AVI that has the subs, both using VDub(Mod).

I have VDubMod but you're over my head here. Is there a tutorial for how to do all of this somewhere?

It's easy. Here's Doom9's guide:

http://www.doom9.org/vdubmod-procedures.htm

Scroll down to the Multiplexing part. First, however, you're going to demultiplex (aka demux=extract) the audio. So, get to that place and rather than adding in the MP3 audio, it'll already be in the original AVI, and you highlight the audio, followed by hitting Demux and then save it out. Then open the new audioless AVI in VDubMod and follow the Multiplex instructions to add in the MP3 audio. Always make sure the Video is set to Direct Stream Copy.
