Sorry my first post is me pimping my own project it's a CD Ripper called Asunder (http://littlesvr.ca/asunder/).

The first version was released in 2005 and then the guy got a life, or something, cause he never released a new version . I came across the project when looking for a decent graphical CD ripper that doesn't require GNOME (which I don't have installed), and I thought it would be a damned shame if this project died outdated and forgotten.

So I fixed a few bugs, asked around for translations, and have just released the next version, which I called 0.8 rather than 0.2 because I feel it's that close to 1.0.

There are screenshots here:

And downloads here:

Would appreciate hearing your comments, ideas, or bug reports.

Hi.

First of all for taking your time developing for this nice independent platform :P

I havent tried your program and i don't know if i will, which is for one simple reason: i doubt it is secure... A problem that all linux rippers have is that they all rely on the same libary called "cdparanoia". Nothing more.
Sadly its proven for a long time now, that EAC's security methods are far more secure than cdparanoia's. But noone bothers to implemt something.

Nothing against your application, it looks really neat and will surely do its job. But on the technical side it is just the same as any other ripping tool for linux out there. which is sad, cause what we need is "Free Choice".

I hope you don't take this personal, as i am absolutely sure many people will find this app useful. But sadly it's just not what I personally need :)

Cool. But I wish I knew what you were talking about :)

What security methods are those?

http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=EAC_Vs_CDex_SecureMode

read this for a comparison between paranoia and EAC'S methods...

http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Exact_Audio_Copy#How_it_works

and this for the techniques itself... worth mentioning is the "C1 and C2" which is the error correction standard on a CDDA and which is not used by cdparanoia at all, as far as i know.

Great stuff. I knew nothing about it. Thanks for the links.

It will take me a while to figure out whether I can use any of that to improve Asunder, but maybe.
