I have MainConcept DV Codec. In Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 I choose it when export the movie.

But can I be 100% sure that premiere really use the MC DV Codec?

How can I check it?

It will.

The MC option is separate from the Microsoft AVI option. It is more than just the codec. It is a special set of files written to work with Premiere (Adobe provide a software development kit and that's what MC have used).

But if you still really want to be sure, you can disable the MS DV codec by unregistering it. But there's really no point. The MC codec will be used...

But when I export the movie I have to choose Microsoft AVI as file type in the general settings and then choose MainConcept DV Codec as Compressor in the video settings.

I have downloaded a sofware "AVIcodec". I think it can I see what codec it is. When I open the file I have exported with premiere in AVIcodec it says: V. codec name: Sony Digital Movie.

Before I had Sony Vegas installed but everything should be uninstalled.

If I right click on the file and choose properties I can read videocompressor: FFDS.

Now I dont't understand nothing. Is it MainConcept, Sony or FFDShow I use?

Oh - so you don't have the MC Adobe plug-in? Are you using the standard MC DV codec?

If so, the way to be certain that it is being used is to unregister the Microsoft DV codec - but that may lead to unwanted side effects like not being able to preview the vidoe in Premiere.

Do you have the licensed version of the MC codec or a trial version? The trial puts a watermark on the encoded video - this will confirm if it is being used.

I'm away from my usual PC so can't provide the exact instructions to disable the MS codec until tomorrow or Monday.

But if you are selecting the MC option, it is very, very unlikely that the wrong encoder will be selected.

I'm using a licensed version of the standard MC DV codec.

Unfortunately I don't have the DVCPRO 50 plug-in.

I don't want to unregister the Microsoft DV Codec if I'm not being able to preview the video in Premiere.

Maybe I can uninstall my MC DV Codec, install the trial version, look for the watermark and then register it again. What do you think?
