Hi.! I've been backing up my dvds using dvdshrink since a year ago and found dvd decrypter being a very useful tool. However, recently i found out that for some reason the isos created with the tools, when played, sometimes have those lags between shots and squared screens. Dvd decrypter says the iso was dumped fine but i dun know why this happens. Is it something wrong with my dvd drive or is there a way to check the the entire dvd (the dumped iso) without completely watching the movie again? Thanks for the help =)

Defrag your hard drive before and after dumping an image.

More than likely the defects are introduced by a dirty or failing DVD-ROM drive. If you have a spare ribbon cable that's not kinked or pinched, change that first, then run a cleaning disk on the drive.

CRW03 are the ribbon cables the IDE cables used to connect the DVD-ROM to the motherboard?? So if change those how does it help?? i'm confused...Btw then how do i run a clean on my drive? Do i get one of those discs with a brush stuck on the cd and let my dvd-rom read it?

Hi!So if change those how does it help??"CWR03" implied the possibility that your presently installed ribbon cable may be "kinked" or "pinched", or otherwise damaged (so that the wires inside the cable and or the connectors may be damaged). Replacing that cable with a new 80 wire, 40 pin cable may solve your problem...

Okay...I've got a spare and i'll trying changing it. Btw how do you know if the cable is damaged? is there a way to check on the computer?

If, as I suggested, you replace the cable with a NEW (meaning newly purchased) 80 wire, 40 pin cable, you should be fairly certain that it's not damaged...

In the meanwhile, try your spare. If it solves your problem, it's not damaged ;>}

the spare is completely new...i got it with my LG DVD-Writer 2 months ago and didn't bother to use it cause my ASUS motherboard came with one. hehe!! so setarip_old, i have to rip a movie and watch it to be sure if the cable is source of my problem? And just to clarify things....does this problem have to do anything with my hard drive (with partitions) being fragmented or dvd decrypter?

1) Install the cable - and again, make certain it's an 80 wire 40 pin cable (Red, Blue, and Black connectors)

2)The previously offered suggestion to follow is to run a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your burner. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10U.S.

3) I'm not personally aware of any benefit from defragmenting a hard drive regarding reading or writing .ISO image files(although, just like the proverbial chicken soup, it won't hurt)

What program are you using to view the .ISO image files?

1)The new cable i have doesn't have RED,BLUE, and BLACK connectors but i am pretty sure they are 80 wired cause the LG's manual said they are...and the wires looks thinner than i other cables i have..
3) Daemon Tools...i mount them up and encode them mounting it. Is it a better idea to rip them as files individually rather than an ISO?

1) Unless something's changed, of which I'm not aware, if all three connectors are black, it's a 40 wire, 40 pin cable - and if the three connectors are red, black, and blue, it's an 80 pin, 40 wire connector...

2) Try playing them with VLC Player - no mounting needed ;>}

By the way, have you tried burning one of these problematic ISOs, to see if they play properly on a standalone DVD player?

1) I was aware of that too...all black but i seems like the cable LG provided looked exactly the same with thin wires and with most of the printed writings the same...
2) Actually this thread started because there were problems with the encoded dvd-rs. I didn't know the ISOs had problems until i actually watched the encoded version and find where the problematic screens were. I go back to my comp and mounted up my original ISOs and found that the problem was with the ISO itself. Then i re-decrypted the disc and the part with the lags were gone but then the laggs just appears on a different part. This is before i changed the cable and i'm still not sure if its the cable's problem now that i just changed them

I guess you'll find out soon enough...

Don't get hung up on the cable as it's more likely to be a bad or dirty drive. Clean the drive! If it is still flaky, then replace it.

neuron2 but i've read articles that say cleaning doesn't help the drive, it just makes it worst....i dunno if its true though.

That sounds silly to me. Get a brand name disk cleaner and just do it. I do it quite often with no ill effects.

ya...i was busy lately and i recently just bought a memorex cd/dvd cleaner and used it on the drive(s) on my computer. HOwever, as i posted on my other cross poss (sorry)...how do you use nero CD-DVD speed to test the accuracy of my drive? Shinigami-Sama mentioned that there are other programs....can anyone give me a name or some sort..this problem is really bothering me =(

ps. sorry.. thought i left this post for so long...so I didn't bother replying it..and started another post...sorry for the cross posts..

For Nero CD/DVD Speed, you just pop a disc in the drive, go to the scan disc tab, and hit start. It will show if there are errors on the disc or not.

errors on the disc??? Does that tell if there is something wrong with my drive or does it just tell that the disc is damaged?

USUALLY it's an indication of a bad disc. However, if the drive is dying, you can also get errors, yes. If you think the drive may be dying, scan it in another drive, as well, and see if the errors you see match up.

Guys...sorry for the late reply...I recently just got a new drive (Sony SATA). Although I can't the drive to burn properly, it reads fine and I've tried again to decrypt one of my movies. There were a slight lag in one of the scenes. However, unlike before squares did not appear. It was a plain lag. Could it be something with my windows? It seems like my computer seems to lag sometimes...with my hard drive flashing/loading all the time. I suspect its the paging going on.

What drivers are you using for your sata controller?

macmac
13th December 2007, 13:35
Is the sata controller the plugs on the motherboard?? I don't think I've installed a driver for it. The ASUS P5RD2-VM motherboard I'm using doesn't come with drivers for the sata....

SamuriHL

Yea, the plugs on the mobo. Sometimes drivers can cause conflicts and other problems. You can check what driver you have installed by looking in Device Manager. If it says Microsoft the you're using the built in Windows drivers which is probably a good thing.

ya the driver is a Microsoft driver....so....what can i do? should i reinstall windows XP?

I honestly don't know. Hopefully someone else will have a better idea for you. I wish I knew what to tell you on this one. Good luck!!
