Hello; and thank you for a very informative website! I have been using alot of the information from this website to backup legally purchased DVD's, with much success.

I have recently been recording various TV programs to my HD in .AVI (Xvid) format.

Now that I am just about out of room on my video capture drive, I figure it is time to start backing these up to DVD. I would like to be able to play them back on a standard DVD player (not a Divx/Xvid player)

I have a copy of Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5, and have fiddled around with it, but haven't been able to get it to output anything useful.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Hi!I have recently been recording various TV programs to my HD in .AVI (Xvid) format...I would like to be able to play them back on a standard DVD player (not a Divx/Xvid player)This is a contradiction - If your player is not a "DivX/XviD player" you can't play XviD-compressed .AVIs on it.

Your only alternative would be to make backup copies (perhaps compressed by DVD Shrink, or similar) of your legally purchased DVDs...

EngineBuilder, there are many freeware programs for this, such as AVI2DVD, as well as the commercial solutions like the latest Nero and Roxio. Roxio's 7.5 does not have the ability to create a standard DVD disk from .avi Xvid files.

Ignore setarip_old's post - he obviously didn't understand yours.

I've been having success with FAVC (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=106677) in recent weeks.

@EngineBuilder

My apologies. It looks like I combined two lines from your post in my (enfeebled) mind ;>}

Try the excellent freeware, "DVDFlick"...
