So wife wants a copy of a region 2 DVD Monarch of the Glen series we own and watch on our HP notebook computer to play on our standard DVD player instead, region 1 bought in US. Though I usually just hook up the sound and s-video outlet to TV from the notebook and works fine, my wife considers it a hassle.

I used DVDshrink 3.2, selected backup as is (default play all region i think), then burn using a SONIC program, the software included on my notebook.

So the copy of the DVD works on the DVD player, menu and all are in color, but the actual episodes itself are in black and white and cuts off some bottom portion of the picture. I dont know much about NTSC and PAL conversion stuff, so dont know how to fix that either. First priority is the color though.

Please, any help very much appreciated.

I think both your problems are caused by trying to play a PAL disc in an NTSC DVD player.

You'll need to convert PAL to NTSC. DVDshrink will probably have such an option somewhere.

It does not - converting PAL to NTSC is a big undertaking, especially with a series disk. Your efforts would be better spent in putting a couple extra hours of overtime at work to pay for a set of region 1 series disks.

Or buy a player that can play PAL DVDs better.

Wal-Mart, probably. :)

Usually the cheaper they are, the more likely they are to play PAL. The Oppo players are probably about the best at it, though. But they're not cheap.
