A .h264 file is just a raw stream; mplayer can play it but what you really need to do is put it in a container, like an mp4 (program used for this is YAMB) or an mkv (program used for this is MKVMerge).

If Yamb doesnt recognize the raw stream then it's probably broken.

raw H.264 -> MP4 shuld work with MP4Box/YAMB
raw H.264 -> AVI can be done with avc2avi (http://tirnanog.fate.jp/mirror/x264/avc2avi.revision594.7z)

yamb is particular about the filename. some apps name it .mpv . rename to .264 and yamb shouldnt have a problem

As far as I know VLC Player can play h264 elementary streams. No container is needed for VLC Player.

No need to convert!

"Raw" H.264/AVC streams can be muxed into an AVI container using "avc2avi.exe", which you can find here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/avc2avi/

"WMV" files actually are WMV1/WMV2/WMV3/VC1 video streams stored in an ASF container. I don't know if H.264/AVC in an ASF container is possible, but it would be extremely unusual at least. So most likely you would want to convert from H.264/AVC to the WMV3/9 (VC1) format and store that in an ASF container.

For WMV encoding, have a look at Alex Zambelli's tools:
http://www.citizeninsomniac.com/WMV/#WMCmd

Why not MP4 or MKV containers? They work much better with H.264 video.

he maybe thinking that as long as that .264 file is put in .AVI container it can be played on DivX Standalone DVD Players which is wrong

Also, dkny2000, please don't commit thread necromancy ;) The last post here was over 3 years ago before you resurrected it :D

Please start new threads in the future.

Thanks,
Derek
