View Full Version : Removing audio stream from clip?

Hi all, I recently got a new live music dvd that I cant get enough of. I wanted to make a backup as I have done before but I ran into a small problem after the encode. I was using DVD-RB Pro and CCE and I wanted to remove the 2.0 audio track and leave the 5.1. After the encode, 2.0 was blank (silent) and 5.1 was still there, but 2.0 was the default audio stream so I had to keep switching the audio manually. After much searching, I figured out how to do it with IfoEdit and my backed up dvd works great now.

The problem is that I wanted to cut out my favourite song from the re-encoded dvd and I did that, but it still plays the default (silent) 2.0 audio stream and I have to switch it to 5.1 manually everytime. Is there a way to fix this so that the empty 2.0 stream isnt on the vob file I cut out? Or did I do something wrong during the encode?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Edit: my apologies if this is the wrong section. I used DVD-RB to do it so I thought i'd post it in here.

Use the "Audio Track Remapping" feature under the "Options" tab (assuming the Professional Edition). That way you can set the 5.1 track as the default.

Thanks Jdobbs, i'll know that for the next dvd I do. Is there anyway to remove it in the current vob I cut?

It's usually (IMHO) not a good idea to remove audio references (in the IFO) - because it mismatches menus, and leaves a hole, etc. That's why DVD-RB just removes the audio stream itself. What you can do is run the newly created disc through DVD-RB again with the "No Recompression" option selected as the encoder, and perform the audio swap. It'll go fast because the video will just be extracted and remultiplexed.

Ah i'll give that a try. I did check the DVD after I ran it through IfoEdit and it worked ok. There is only one still menu and selecting either of the audio tracks plays 5.1 so it worked out ok, it was just a pain in the backside with the vob I cut out! Thanks again :D

Sorry, one more question. Its a 2-Disc set and when I done the 2nd disc, I used PgcEdit to remove anything related to the blank 2.0 audio track. It works okay in the dvd player but if I cut a song from the vob file it plays the silent track again. I tried to reload it in DVD-RB but it only shows one audio track. Does DVD-RB change anything in the ifo/bup files? Could I just rip the original ifo/bup files from the dvd and overwrite the edited ones so I can re-run it through DVD-RB? or would that mess up the playback?

DVD-RB makes a lot of changes in the IFO/BUP files. I don't think you'd be able to swap out the IFOs -- too much difference at this point. I guess the "Audio Remapping" would just be something you may want to keep in mind for the next time.

Hmmm this is not working at all with either of the discs. I tried re-running it through DVD-RB with no compression and audio remapping but the song I keep extracting starts off silent until I press the audio button. The only change now is that if I select audio track one, it doesnt go silent. I just want it to start off playing straight away without having to press the audio button :P

Consider using PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) for this - guide on site.

Audio/subtitle track remapping can only be guaranteed when the stream is selected directly and not via a GPRM.

blutach: I'm looking for guides but i'm unsure which one to use. The ones i've seen talk about removing/blanking a Titleset (VTS). Could you point me to the right one if its not too much trouble?

The DVD contains only 2 audio tracks and a still-image menu with options to skip to certain songs/change audio.

Looking through the various PgcEdit options, I see a "Domain Streams Attributes" options. It had the 2 audio choices in there although I thought it was removed with DVD-RB. If I select the first one (which is the blank audio stream) and tick delete and press okay, will that fix it?? Or would I have change some other things??

edit #2: the domain stream attributes thing didnt work. if I open one of the vobs on its own, it still plays the blank audio stream and i have to select the 2nd one manually. It all seems fine during playback through dvd player/software but I ripped the vob of my favourite song and it always plays the blank audio stream.

Try this one - http://forum.digital-digest.com/showpost.php?p=296707&postcount=1

Remap the streams to make the blank one the last one. Redo the button authoring (if you have kept the menu). Then delete the empty stream via the domain strewam atts.

Thanks for the reply blutach.

I tried that one but to no avail. Maybe I'm not clicking a certain button or something. I changed the 2nd stream to 0 (0x80) and the 1st blank stream to 1 (0x81). I clicked "Set" for both and then clicked okay. I tried file > save dvd but it didnt work. When I select a random vob (VTS_01_2.vob) and play it on its own, it still plays the blank audio stream.

Is that supposed to happen? If I burn the files to DVD then use DVD Decrypters IFO mode and select the song I want to rip, will it rip it with audio or will it still rip the blank audio stream? If I try to cut the song with Vob Splitter or ChopperXP, it still plays the blank audio stream first

After setting the streams in the PGC (do this for all PGCs in the domain), change the identifier in the domain streams attributes to match the one you are keeping.

Then, in the DSA, delete the unused stream.

Finally, you will need to reprogram the menu button/gprm which holds the audio stream number to swap the stream numbers over. This is the most difficult task. Otherwise, you can select the unwanted stream in the menu and it will play the desired one.

blutach: I think I may not be explaining it properly.

I burnt the re-encoded rip to dvd with the options you've gave me in here and it works fine watching the dvd, but I used DVD Decrypter's IFO mode to rip one song that I like most. However, once its ripped and I open the vob manually (so no other files, just VTS_01_2.vob), it still has a blank audio stream that plays first. I want that to be completely removed from the vob, not just the menu/PGC.

My apologies if I wasnt clear before :)

edit: I made the files into an ISO, mounted with Daemon Tools and when I was in DVD Decrypters "IFO Mode", I looked in the stream processing tab and the audio stream is listed as 0x81 and not 0x80. I think this might be the problem.. maybe there has to be a 0x80 and everytime I rip it, it inserts a blank 0x80 audio stream?? I need to change the stream in the vobs (not the menu/ifo) to 0x80 I think.

Are you trying to make a DVD with just this one song on it? In any case, don't use IFO mode - as you can see there's no IFOs!

Easier to edit the DVD with the plethora of editing tools - DVD Shrink, for example.

I think, since this thread has less and less to do with DVD Rebuilder (http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/), with jdobbs's permission, I might move it to IFO/VOB Editors.

I've already made the dvd. When I play it in my standalone player, it plays fine with no problems, but when I use DVD Decrypters IFO mode to rip one song (so I have just that one song as a .vob file), the actual vob still contains 2 audio streams. 1 blank (which plays first) and the one I wanted to keep. I wanted to re-do the DVD so that there is only one audio stream in the vob files.

I used a program called "VobRator" which let me change the stream ID of one vob (VTS_01_1.vob) from 0x81 to 0x80 and that worked fine. It only played the normal audio stream and didnt have any blank one to select. However the program kept crashing when I tried it with the next vob (VTS_01_2.vob) so I couldnt use that.

I think I need to switch the vob audio stream ID from 0x81 to 0x80 and that will fix the problem. Are there any programs that will do this automatically excluding vobrator? Or is there an option in IfoEdit that will do this? I've tried looking but i'm a bit of a noob so I havent found the right option.

My apologies if I wasnt clear earlier. I'm 99% sure now that I need to change the vob audio stream ID from 0x81 to 0x80

The simplest way to get rid of the useless stream is just to strip it. In addition, you will regain some disc space. You can do that with DVDShrink. Just unselect the first stream.

Thanks r0lZ i'll give that a try later. If it works, I might strip future ones in DVDShrink first then re-encode with DVD-RB/CCE later

DVD Shrink keeps crashing on me, it doesnt like my computer :(

Any other methods?

Sounds like the source is corrupted. Bad rip?

I ripped the full dvd with DVD Decrypter and used DVD-RB Pro to remove the first audio stream, I dont see where it could have corrupted

DVD Decrypter doesn't handle latter copy protections well.

Well, I re-ripped it with DVD Decrypter and mounted it with daemon tools and everything worked (without stripping anything).. I dont know what the hell is going on anymore :P

VobBlanker

I tried that but keep getting the same thing. It doesnt change the second audio stream ID from 0x81 to 0x80. Is there something I need to manually in the program or a certain option I need to check?

blutach
30th August 2007, 01:21
No. That is identified in the VOBs.

Why not for your one song now, simply use DVD Shrink or the like to extract it in re-author mode?

I've done the one song but I'm looking to sort the problem for any future dvds I do. If I back this dvd up and go to rip a song from it in 12 months time, i'll have the same problem of a blank audio stream which will need removing everytime. I want a "flawless" rip :)

roach2005
30th August 2007, 02:16
Ah I've sorted it now. I used IfoEdit.

I changed the Stream ID of the 2.0ch (0x80) to 0x81 and then changed the Stream ID of the 5.1ch (0x81) to 0x80. I then reloaded the IFO file and used the "Strip Stream" function and removed the 2.0ch (which was now labeled as 0x81). Now when I play the new vob files it automatically plays the 5.1 stream and there is no blank 2.0 stream :D :D :D

Just one last question, is it better to do this before running it through DVD-RB or after? or doesnt it make a difference?

blutach
30th August 2007, 02:43
It wouldn't make a difference. And what you did is the Ifoedit equivalent of what we recommended in PgcEdit. :)

I followed the guide with PgcEdit but I must have done something wrong, it just wouldnt work. It would strip the stream but it wouldnt change the ID of the second one to 0x80.

Thanks for all the help everyone :D
