Problematic new graphics card with video renderers...

My new nvidia 8600gt 256mb is having trouble with videos (divx or any other type) but only on some resolutions....
like 720x370, 640x306 on a yv12 surface.

here's what's happening (its a photo because when capturing with software player it is allright)

after checking all connections e trying a lot of other things... i have found how to make it work... install windows vista! it plays fine. maybe because of directx 10.

but since i do not want to migrate to vista went back to xp.
after some more tests in windows xp it looks like to be a problem with the directx9 directshow renderer. (quartz.dll)

in media player classic i was able to get the image right in overlay mixer (quartz.dll) with the option "lock back-buffer before presenting" checked. the same aplies to VMR9 (renderless and windowed).

VMR7 (renderless and windowed) with the option checked i get black screen! :confused: without it same blue bars on video....

with haali's video renderer i do not need to have the option checked and the same aplies to bsplayer's EVR (Enchanced Video Renderer) wich by the the way does not have that option.

what to do?

Same here, Geforce 8500GT

Seems like a driver thing, it's fixed with Back-Buffers.

I think it is a Forceware driver thing because same machine with a Geforce 6200 does not show any signs of problems.

try upgrading or downgrading the video card drivers.

i have tested beta 163.44, stable 162.18, ngo optimized driver 162.18 and no luck... going to try downgrading.

still its odd because if i open the file three or four times in a row (quickly like drag and drop) the problem goes away but if i open it again i get blue bars and i have to repeat the process.

try also upgrading your video card BIOS/Firmware... but only if you know what you're doing (you're warned).

For sure Nvidia wont invest anything anymore in supporting VMR7 you can be happy if they even gonna invest into VMR9 :P they and the industry want you to migrate to Vista and a DRM based Platform where later TPM can get active and everything is secured, so they would be dump if they would still develop for a non secured platform and the industry also does force them not todo this or no content support, the game is very easy to understand. It's the first try to move PCs into a more secured (controllable) enviroment for content owners (btw Apple is also faster with this they have everything ready they just need to push a button and your rights over your machine are gone) and the best for them would be if everyone moves into this and such tactics help them to achive that sooner or later everyone gonna move, because he can't finish certain tasks anymore on the old System when the end of Windows XPs Support is coming this will be the case :P
