Well, I play a game online and am trying to get a x264 clip I guess you would call it. I have virtualdubmod, and have a clip I made as an .avi, for compression I just used xvid. I have no idea about how to get an mp4 clip at all, Ive used the search and couldnt come up with anything, anyone have a certain program? Online tutorial? Something to help the newbie out.

Import the clip into MeGUI (if you dont know what that is, please use search) and use one of the included profiles to make life easier for you.

cool, thanks alot, it worked!

Only thing, it was like a 5 second clip, and came out being like 13mb, is this normal? I think its a little bit too large for the length of the clip, is there a way to reduce file size?

Likely you chose too high a quality level (or maybe even a lossless encode?)

well here is what I did, I encoded it(i guess you call it that) with something called huffvec(spelling?) codec in vdubmod, then in MeGui, i just kept everything default, for making the avisynth config i went into tools and kept everything default too.

is there anything I should change?

People are going to give you all sorts of recomendations for 2pass settings, CRF or even constant bitrate. Its just a very complex thing, so many options.

Personally i would just set the megui x264 options to be CRF 22 and leave the rest at their defaults. That way its one pass and constant quality. Size should also be very good.

Sorry, i cant be assed making screenies :p Text is just as good yeah :)

Load your clip into Megui.

In the input tab go to the codec dropdown select x264.

Under the "video profile" select "HQ Fast" and hit the config button.

Under the "Main" tab change the "mode" to "Constant Quality". Change the "Quality" to 20 or 22 (22 will give smaller size with little less quality). Everything else is fine for a default encode. You can dig further if you want, but just learn about the options first.

Under the "Profiles" section down the bottom
press "new" and give your profile a name. You can then enque and start encoding.
