PgcEdit v8.4 - Wave Out Error

I am getting this error message:

whenever PgcEdit tries to play some sound...

The OS is Windows XP SP2, Italian...

I have the impression that the trouble is related with some configuration issue on my machine, but it seems to me no other applications have any audio issues...

I think the problem started with the "new" versions of PgcEdit - maybe v8.3 ? - the ones with the new style of message boxes...

Hem... Sorry if I am missing some very basic installation or configuration point...

Also - I noticed that the preview stopped working properly; it was necessary to move the preview.exe file from the bin folder one level up, into the same folder of PgcEdit, in order to obtain the "usual" good behaviour of the preview...

May it be related with some register file problems on my PC ?

Hummm, I have several problems with the sounds used for the new "standard" yes/no/cancel dialogs.
The procedure uses the system sounds defined via Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices. In the case of this error, PgcEdit cannot play the sound called "Asterisk" (which is used for the "info" dialogs.)
Could you verify that there is a sound associated with Asterisk, that it's a WAV file, and that it is playable?

The sounds used by PgcEdit are:
Critical Stop (for error dialogs)
Exclamation (warning dialogs)
Question (question dialogs)
Asterisk (info dialogs)

Also, I have received another bug report about the sounds. Seems PgcEdit crashes when a sound is played on some dual-core systems. What CPU do you have?

Hmmm...
It seems there are no sounds associated with "Asterisk" in my system...

The configuration of sounds in my PC is as follows:

As you can see, in the Italian version of WinXP even the "Critical Stop" sound is named differently...

Edit: Ha, my system here is a very old PC, single core (P4 Northwood - 3.2 GHz), the motherboard is an ASUS P4C800E deluxe...

I have no idea on how asterisk has been translated. Anyway, PgcEdit retrieves the file name of the sound in the registry, not via the GUI. I suppose that the registry keys are identical on all systems, regardless of the language.

The key for the asterisk is "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\SystemAsterisk\.Current" and the default value of that key is the sound file name (with or without path.)
Could you verify with RegEdit if that key exists, and if its value is defined? I guess it is defined, as PgcEdit checks if the key exists, if its value ends by ".wav" and if the file exists. Otherwise, the default beep is used instead, and the error cannot occur.

EDIT - OK. The key exist, and its value is defined as follows:

The file plays fine, by double clicking on it.
Maybe the presence of spaces in the filename is someway involved ?

I just checked the beta release of PgcEdit that you have PMd to me;
the error message box is not showing anymore, but no sound is produced while saving the DVD...
No changes happen by toggling the new sound play item in the user interface menu (I mean, no sounds are produced...)...

that registry key is there for me but.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\SystemAsterisk\.Current
does not contain any thing, because i have disable all sound in windows.

but
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\SystemAsterisk\.Default
this one has the location of the wav file (%SystemRoot%\media\Windows XP Error.wav)

OK, that might be the cause of the problem, although I don't understand why PgcEdit tries to play a sound without filename, as it should detect that.
But it is easy for me to duplicate your settings, and test.
