I used to have an ATI AIW 9700 Pro. When I first purchased it I spent some time here on doom9 looking through tutorials on how to capture/encode Cable TV to Divx/MP3.
I would capture using AVI_IO to HuffYUV and my original 3 hour capture would be about 100GB. I would then load that into VDubMod and could resize/crop and encode to Divx/MP3 and end up with excellent quality video that was correctly resized to 16:9 and looked great.
Ever since I "upgraded" from that 9700 Pro my capture life has been hell. I cannot find a capture card that will allow me to capture with AVI anymore, for starters!? I've been through about 4 different capture cards and they've all only allowed me to capture with MPEG-2. As such, AVI_IO doesn't work. When I do get an MPEG-2 capture I can't get it into any kind of processing application like VDubMod that will work. Even the VDub that will allow me to open MPEG-2 files...it never works out. The audio/video gets all out of whack and the end result is just not good.
So, as it stands now I have an ATI TV Wonder 650 and Windows Vista Ultimate with Media Center. Of course media center captures MPEG-2 with that weird dvr-ms file type. Can't find anything to handle that well.
What software do I need to be able to capture using this TV Wonder 650 and then load that video into something that will allow me to crop/resize and encode to Divx/MP3? It seems like it should be simple...just like it was when I was capturing to HuffYUV. I simply cannot figure this out when I'm capturing to MPEG-2.
I even tried using GKnot, which I used a lot to backup DVD's. That works great, and that's MPEG-2. However, when I try and load my MPEG-2 captures into GKnot it just doesn't work. I try and follow the steps in the guides but since it's not a DVD it doesn't really follow and then my end result is nothing good at all.
So any information on how I can get this problem resolved would be greatly appreciated. I"m simply trying to capture TV and encode to Divx/MP3. I want to be able to control the bitrate and everything manually just like I used to.
