These are stills of a Dirty Harry movie and an episode of the Sopranos, both on DVD.

This happens in VLC and when I play it in MPC, it looks almost the same.

Does this look familiar to anyone? What could possibly be the cause of this? Please help me out, it's been giving me headaches for the last few weeks and I just want to enjoy watching movies without them looking like animated legos.

I'm begging you guys, help me!

It's an issue with DirectShow, if I'm not mistaken. Normally there's a smoother at work to hide the pixellation, but yours isn't working.

What video card? Install the latest version of the drivers for it if you can, that usually clears these problems up. Experiment with different output modes, like overlay, VMR9, opengl, EVR, and Haali's (which cannot have this problem).

I've downloaded the Nvidia Purevideo decoder and it's all gone now. Terrific!

Now I only need to get rid of this bloody chroma upsampling problem.

Thanks for the help guys.
