Movie Maker - How to Delete for XP?

Does anyone know how to remove the world worst program, Windows Movie Maker from XP?

why do you want to remove it? i never used it btw, but there is nothing that would make me remove it.

... nothing ?? What about if you never used it ?? I can't really see the point of having some dumb M$ app wasting hdd space when there's plenty of other apps that do a far better job.....

wasting hdd space is relative if you got enough. windows xp compresses things you do not use for a long time, maybe this also affects the movie maker. apart from that it is not on my desktop, not in my start menu and not in my quicklaunch bar - so I never see it. thats why it does not disturb me.

Fair enough - i still find the amount of space that xp uses an absolute joke regardless of hdd size ( don really get ur argument there ), so getting rid of anything would be advantageous.

Guess ill be sticking to win2k (hell, i think *that* OS needs trimming let alone xp :) )

mhh okay XP needs ~1GB, but you can't find any hdd with less than 20GB on the market. when windows95 was released (i think it needs at least about 150MB space) a normal hdd was something about 500MB. so at that time win95 was wasting much more space than XP does today.

lol, got 30+80 gigs - I jus dont want a ~1 gig OS ( cos its about 700 megs of bloatey M$ apps that ill never use going by the size of win2k ) - and neither does oberkfell.....

@oberkfell - you have just tried to delete the folder right ?? if that dont work ( ie. it comes back ) Windows Movie Maker is prolly protected by windows file protection - if u turned that off ( edit the registry urself or get a XP tweaking app ) then u could probaly just delete it.

Worked for me with netmeeting and a few other things in 2k ;)

goto your windos/inf directory
open sysoc.inf with notepad
delete the word 'hide' from any lines that take your fancy
(leave in the commas)
save the file then remove any componants u like from
control panel/addremove programmes windows componants.

best way to get rid of windows messanger and the
other stuff ms forces you to keep.

Yea, I tried that mainly to get rid of all the proprietary programs Mr. Gates puts on his operating systems. But the Movie Maker program is not there. I guess I will have to edit the registry and disable file protection. Its the only way I know how to do it. I just thought there may be something I am missing.

A handy tip from TweakXP.com

Type 'gpedit.msc' from the command line, better yet create a shortcut for it in your Admin tools folder for later use.

Don't recall where exactly it was, but I know I saw a place to disable windows file protection in here.

You can change just about anything you would want to from here and avoid the registry altogether : )
