View Full Version : What are the causes of hangs in video smoothness?

I am encoding AVI with DivX3 (Divx4 gives me lower quality and is too dark). What causes the motion to occassionally hang and then catch up? I am talking about something barely noticeable, but I don't know what causes it. I would assume a low bitrate means video quality but not smoothness.

I use an Athlon XP 1600 w/ 512 MB DDR RAM. Is it necessary to start encoding from a fresh boot and not have other programs running?

Also, is DivX4 so much better than DivX3 that I should be using it? Because I have heard bad things about it and it gives me problems like I was saying.

I am using Divx 4.12. I still don't know the cause of this and no one out there will help me out. I've emailed the author of Xmpeg to see if he can help me out.

does it always happen @ the same position? maybe there are other programs running, preventing your cpu from giving your player enough power continuously. what os do u use?

btw: flask is evil! ;)

No, it doesn't happen at the same time. and like I said, if you go back, to try to make the video speed up again in the same spot, it won't do it.

I'm using Windows 2000 Pro.

Xmpeg isn't evil. its a lot easier and the quality is outstanding. I've had no problems with it so far. Just this one minor bug that I know can be fixed.
