The Thing

Hi folks,

I recently downloaded a video in *.wmv format of John Carmack's
keynote speech from QuakeCon 2007 from here - http://www.quakeunity.com/file=2513 - the video is over an hour long and I've watched about half of it, the problem is that neither Windows Media Player nor Media Player Classic will allow me to select a point from which to start watching the rest of the video from. If I drag the slider in either player it just goes back to the start of the video.

What cause's this, and does anyone know how to fix the problem?

Thanks for your help.

i've encountered a similar problem on a couple videos too.i got round the problem by just re-converting it with some software (either back to wmv or divx,mpeg...etc).
if you are on windows xp and dont have video conversion software, try importing the file into windows media encoder and converting it to wmv again.
windows media encoder is normally found in start>all programs.

Have you tried enabling/disabling the "use WM asf reader" under MPC's tweaks section in options?

What about VLC?

The end with the index is cut off. You just have to remux it, no need to re-encode. You can use ASF tools or solveig asf muxer to do that.
