What grain filter should I use for REALLY old stuff?

I've got a bunch of movies from the 30s and 40s I'm converting. The source material is HORRIBLY noisy and grainy; what noise and grain removal filter do you suggest for this kind of project?

Not sure, but love to see your final script ! Interlaced ? fps ?

The script in this link http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1030551#post1030551 might facilitate a basis for you to do some filtering comparisons (minus the colour/agc fixup stuff of course). Looks like a tad of cropping on the bottom 8-16 lines and some post-filtering LimitedSharpenFaster/SeeSaw might be in order.

I look forward to the suggestions from those with a clue.

Your capture has no detail or infact no grain so either your projector lens is not sharp or digitizing camera doesn't have good resolution or is not in focus.

The tonal balance is good but is looks like video tape, not film. If fact you can see the lack of D.C. clamp which yells VHS!
