Broken now that I upgraded TMPGEnc

I upgraded to TMPGEnc 4.0 XPres, which apparently has a different project file format because the .tpr file DVD2SVCD creates when I try to go from AVI to DVD doesn't work. Has anybody figured out a way to make this work?

I think you are out of luck here. DVD2SVCD is not being maintained by its author any more, so unless someone writes a wrapper application which translates the new project file format to the old one you will not be able to use TMPGEnc Xpress.

But IMO you should really consider using HC or QuEnc with DVD2SVCD. They are both free, and the output quality should be at least as good (probably better) than TMPGEnc.

Is the source for DVD2SVCD available? I use this tool frequently and could be motivated to make some updates to it... I, too, am an XPress user.

Does anyone know offhand the project file format for the pre-XPress versions of TMPGEnc? My version is long expired and it doesn't appear that Pegasys Inc is selling licenses any longer.

DVD2SVCD isn't an open source project I'm afraid. The author has never released the source code for any version of the software.

If it helps for experimental purposes (the quality ain't that great!) the old betas of TMPGEnc offer unlimited MPEG2 encoding and are freeware.

A Google search for

should find you a working TMPGEnc version with MPEG2 support for testing.

Is the source for DVD2SVCD available? I use this tool frequently and could be motivated to make some updates to it... I, too, am an XPress user.You could try emailing the author at support [at] dvd2dvd [dot] org if the address still works. I think that at one point he was willing to share the sources with a person who would develop the program further. There are a few bugs that would be nice to get fixed along with some other stuff that are missing.
