convert swf to avi

Anyone know a program that can convert swf to avi? I tried SUPER but it had trouble reading the file

I'd be interested in finding a good program to do this as well. I've come across lots of commercial applications that claim to do it, but most of them are pretty awful. The best one I have come across yet is Amor SWF to Video Converter ( http://www.zealot-soft.com/#swf2video ), but it still leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn't support audio compression, and the choice of video codecs is very limited.

I've used it, and it lets you create a sequence of relatively high quality JPGs; thats the best option IMO. The video convert itself is crap, if I remember correctly it craps out if the video gets to a size above 50-100MB or something, eliminating the possibility of using lossless codecs in most cases.

Camtasia (http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp) is very good. It records both audio and video with pretty good quality. The downside is cost: $299 for a single-user license :eek:. The Wikipedia page on it also mentions a free alternative called CamStudio (http://www.camstudio.org/).

That's probably because the audio quality in the original was crap; Amor can (if you choose to) directly demux the audio in the SWF.

There's the freeware swf2avi, but it's not especially good. It's of the capture-bitmaps-in-realtime-then-convert-to-avi type, really rudimentary. Camstudio is easier.

I'm still on the hunt for a really good one-click swf ripper, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but I haven't found one yet.

I got another question: Now that Avidemux supports FLV output, I have an easy way of creating .flv videos. But how do I get FLV videos into SWF, so I can embed them into website? I know I could do that with commercial Flash Authoring software, but I'm looking for a free (even better OpenSource) way. Basically all I need is an extisting SWF file, which implements a very simple player and loads my FLV from an external file...

Hello, I'd like to suggest that you try wondershare again. Its video to flash encoder (http://www.flash-on-tv.com/video-to-flash.html) can help you convert video files to FLV, SWF, EXE and even screensaver. it supports various video formats such as MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, FLV etc... The output small-sized Flash Video, SWF and screensaver can be easily distributed by E-mail, FTP upload, or just regular storage devices.
However, I have to remind you that it's not free. Anyway, you can take it for your reference.
Actually I don't need an encoder, because I already can create FLV files. And I want those to be copied 1:1 into the SWF file. As said before, the best solution would be an existing SWF that implements a simply player and loads my FLV from external file...

None are quite as nice as youtube's, but several are pretty close, you just have to find a generic one and not one with hardcoded paths. Ahh thanks. Seems like exactly what I was looking for :)

Unfortunately it won't play my FLV files created with Avidemux properly.
The sound scrambled and the video is playing too fast. The same FLV plays 100% fine in MPlayer.
Don't know if this is a Flash Player or an Encoder problem...
