View Full Version : How to avoid jagged edges from deinterlacing?

I'll be honest, I get kinda frustrated surfing these boards, because I can't seem to find a relevant topic anywhere. Everyone's questions and topics seem so complex and really, I'm just looking to do something very simple:

Basically, I'm using GKnot to encode the Family Guy series. I understand how to use GKnot, the concept of editing the Avisynth script file, etc. That's all fine and actually, I can encode the video fine, but it's still not to my liking. To make a long story short, the interlacing artifacts seem to be gone, but I still get lots of jagged edges, especially when I go to full screen mode. They're really annoying and I'd like to get rid of them, but not sure how. I've messed around with the GKnot settings a lot, but can't seem to find a solution, so I'm assuming the solution (if there is one) lies in using an external Avisynth function that I'm not aware of.

I wish I could post some pictures of my results, but not sure how to take a screenshot of an AVI file (Hint! Hint!) Anyway, any help would be nice and feel free to ask me any questions and I'll try and help as best I can. I'll try and check my post several times a day. Thanks.

Please read and follow the forum rules, specifically, rule 9: use a proper thread title. I have fixed yours for you this time. Thank you.

Also, why did you open a new thread about this when you already have one going?

You need to post an *unprocessed* VOB/M2V fragment of your source that shows the problem when encoded. Screenshots are useless.

Alright. I'll be careful, but I don't understand what you mean by unprocessed VOB/M2V. What am I supposed to do with that? (I mean, in order to show the problem.)

To get a clip from the unprocessed vob, load it into dgindex and select a small section that shows the problem, and choose file>demux video (that may not be the name of the actual command, but I can't check it right now).

I think I explained the problem in your original thread here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1026758#post1026758

The original source footage contains really bad deinterlacing (probably interlaced again afterwards). Theres no way to fix it 100%. The filter "Sangnom" might be able to help a little.

Cut a portion of your source VOB and post a link to it.
