I have been using ConvertX for quite some time to put mkv files on dvd, but I have run into a few files that can't be converted the "easy" way.

I have messed around with quite a few programs, but can anyone recommend a noob friendly program that can handle mkv any better than convertx?

As it is now, I have to demux the mkv, then convert the h.264 video to avi, then convert the acc audio to mp3, then resynchronize and add in the extracted subs (if any), compile the whole thing into avi, and then burn to dvd... (whew)

Is this standard operating procedure for getting mkv onto a dvd?
(yes I really am a noob at doing this, but i can read a little! :p)

MediaCoder is a crowd favorite if you convert into a lot of different formats, and it'll easy handle pretty much any mkv. (Might have trouble with some wmvs.) Once you drag your file in, you just go to Extensions menu, Home players, Video disc player, and choose your disc format (NTSC or PAL). It'll handle the rest.

might have a look at riverpast video cleaner pro. i use it to re-encode my mkv to .vob. it supports quite a few formats, however not sure how it handles subtitles as i never use them.

Useless payware = stupid.

There is no reason to ever pay money for a video converter when all the payware video converters do is hijack free tools to do their job anyways.
