Am I missing an all in one guide that deals with these types of questions? I see a lot of threads on the tools, etc but nothing that is start to finish on how to get a watchable rip...
I've been lurking and reading for a while and finally got my xbox drive yesterday ($140.00 thanks circuity city!).
I had hopes of doing the rips in OS X but it sounds like the lack of a udf 2.5 driver is the limiter. I built a fresh feisty install this morning and was able to start ripping right away.
I am using DumpHD and it appears to be working well, although I still have a few gigabytes to go.
My playback goal is to play these from my NAS to any of the Mac Mini's I have attached to my HD TVs around the house. From what I've read and what I'm hearing in #videolan on IRC, it sounds like VLC *might* play some evo files but not all. It also sounds like I might be able to find a nightly build of Mplayer for OS X that might play them.
What about the audio? I'm seeing conflicting things here too. It sounds like the audio is totally not cracked and therefore unplayable, then I see that it might be backwards compatible with existing DTS, etc...
I guess what I am after is a way to rip and HD-DVD, convert it to an h264 (or similar) file that I can watch in VLC ... any suggestions :)
