audio/video encoding problem (freezing) why!

hi,

im running amd x2 4400+ and two gigs of corsair xms memory. yet still, when i try to encode the video and audio, my computer freezes. asus pc probe2 indicated 52 degrees C which should be fine for my core. i have a 580 hiper psu which is solid too. so why does my comp freeze when trying to do this?? i registered here and have been locked out for some 5 day waiting period. please advise!!! ive followed the meGUI wiki word for word on how to rip my dvd collection!!

Once you rule out overheating, the next most common cause of problems is drivers - but those almost always result in a bluescreen/reboot. Update every one that you can.

I wouldn't totally overlook overheating though - have you checked your graphics card (many tools to do this) and your memory? If fft3dgpu is used, it'll stress the gpu, but x264 is also an extremely heavy memory user and will show up any system instability quickly.

i have an XXX 7600gt that I clocked at 700/850. Ill use riva tuner to check that temp too. As for the ram, Ive run memtest over night and there were no errors.

Nope. RivaTuner reports steady 41/42C. And it still keeps freezing. Any other suggestions please!

I wouldn't suspect the gfx card, mostly it isn't used for encoding (only in such cases as fft3dgpu). I don't have an X2, but since they don't have a core temp monitor 52 sounds a little high, but not dangerously so.

You say it locks every time and you don't sometimes get BSODs such as IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL?

What I'd do is run full stress testing. Prime95 torture test is a good place to start, you'll need to start a second instance with an "-A1" switch and set each to it's own core affinity.

Yeap. For the Audio, it ran until a different Completion %age but it suddenly finished completely, which left me shocked. As for the Video, i get the same symptom. Freezing and requiring a hard reboot. Highest I get on video is 35% and it never got past that. I'll try Prim95 and report back. Also, Am i supposed to get a message if my CPU temp is too high on my next reboot?

Ok, Ive tried running Prime95, First time running the tortue test. I only ran one copy on first core and it froze again. no BOSD, just froze and required hard reboot. So there is an instability.. but where? I have overclocked my video card and cpu. the stock cpu speed was 2200, but mine is currently at 2530. [11x230] Since prime95 stresses CPU, does that mean the instability is present in my CPU? Should I restore it to stock speeds, or increase the VCore?

In addition to those tips, check for too low voltage if you haven't raised it much, and run memtest86 or one of its clones to check for the possibility of bad ram. If it's not a failed component, you should just be able to lower the overclock a bit to make things stable.

Haha, I went and did that without even thinking about it... Set my stats back to [11x210] and everything went smoothly. However, I can't seem to get a finished muxed file. I muxed my audio and video, but theres still no sound. The mp4 file I created for audio won't open normally and shows errors. So whys that?

I think it was that the version of mp4box that came with megui has a bug, or just the routines that call it - it was reported a while back, but the devs haven't had time yet. You can fix it by using yamb manually as the last step.
