Cannot access .avi file after incomplete capture

Hello to all nice to find you here,

I need your help.

I was doing a recording from my camera to pc using xvid compression.
Something happend to pc and I got a blue screen before I stop the recording...
The result ? I cannot access the .avi file with any player.
I've tryied totaly every player but I cannot play it.

The size its normal for the video. so there is data in it...

Players cannot ''see'' thats an avi file.
Someone told me it has problem with the header or sth like that...

Guys....I need your help...

Try DivFix++

The reason is that Windows doesn't finalize the header information for the AVI file until the file is closed properly.

AVIMedic claims to be able to fix such errors.

Did you try loading it into virtualdub, reconstruct keyframe flags, and resave with directshowsource?

Hmm. If you're handy with a hex editor and familiar with the AVI format, you could try making another webcam capture, finalize it, and clone the header onto the old one.

Hi!I was doing a recording from my camera to pc using xvid compression.Are you talking about a capture from a webcam (as suggested by "foxyshadis") or a camcorder recording?

If it's a camcorder capture, it might be easier to just recapture it...

Its something like webcam...

Last night I was trying to fix it via hex editor.

So I compress a video 2 hours with same settings from the bad video and then I deleted its data from hex except header and some other data in order to play without error...then I copy paste video data from the bad video to the new one and it worked...

Image is not so good and the video its like X4 speed...Im trying to fix this now...

If you copy the header from another file, make sure both files were created in exactly the same way and that they have exactly the same number of frames.

Ok guys...I fixed it totaly ...

The key to that was to recapture something to the same fps (before i was doing it with more fps)

Then with a hex editor just delete many of the data from the good avi and then copy paste -only- the data from the corrupted avi to the good one...saved and worked ;)

Oh and something else...i can play it only with GOM player ;)
