I'm a 18 year vet on Windows and atleast 5 years of dvd backup tinkering on WinXP. But I switched to a Macbook 3 weeks ago and I'm totally lost at backing up a dvd on OS X. I'm am so use to Ripit4me, DVDdecrypter, dvdshrink, vobblanker, dvdremakepro and imgburn that I'm really going to miss them. I was hoping to get suggestions on what apps are available for backing up dvd's so I can start researching their use. Thanks for any/all info/advice you can give me.

hi, you may try this DVD Copy for Mac (http://www.mp4converter.net/dvd-copy-mac.html)

Well you can always use Bootcamp and install windows on your mac. That way you can use both operating systems on the same machine.

For ripping only I would recommend MacTheRipper. For All-In-One DVD to quicktime, mp4, x264 I would recommend Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/). Both are freeware or open source. These are the only two programms I found since I have a mac, they're great, but I'm still looking for other purpose tools (Audio Transcoders, HD backup etc.)

Thx ya'll, much appreciated. I'll look at the suggestions. It also looks like PGCEdit is usable on a mac for dvd editing if used with X11 (gotta learn about X11 now, apparently it comes on the OS X install disc(s)), it's just pgcedit looks so complex (intimidating) I never got familar with it. As for Bootcamp, I thought of that but me Winxp disc is an OEM for my old Dell which can't be used and bill's not getting anymore of my money if I can help it. :D

This is a pretty good post. I'm switching to Mac soon, and I'm going to run into the same problems. Very informative!
