Problems With the Movie 300 on HDDVD

Hi! I've decypted this movie twice with DumpHD and BackupHDDVD C#, but everytime I play the backup's with PowerDVD Ultra v7.3, I can only hear the audio and see no video. Also its not a problem with my computer because I've played HDDVD backup's on my computer with PowerDVD before. So does anyone know how I can fix this, or any other software that can play it rite?

well i ripped it with anydvd and it plays in powerdvd here 7.3

This is definitely NOT the problem because you have removed the copy protection. And because you can hear the audio the decryption seems to be successful. It is again most likely that buggy PowerDVD Ultra is problem, try installing the latest 3104a patch.

Well, I re-installed PowerDVD and its the same thing but this time instead of the screen being black, its green. So I decided to re-install Windows Vista and start from scratch. I'd everything again, and still there's only audio. I've also demuxed the video to seperate the audio and the video, and when I play the demuxed video it plays fine. So I geuss it is PowerDVD, but how can I fix it, also the first thing I did after I installed PowerDVD was install patch 3104a. So can anybody give me any other way I can fix this or playback the .evo file?

Are you sure you use the latest drivers of your videocard ? try updating those !

Yes, I have a NVIDIA 8800 GTX OC'Ed with the latest drivers, 162.22, for windows vista. Also can you downgrade drivers, because I think the problem started after I upgraded them? The OC is stable for the people wondering because it was OC'Ed from the factory and works perfectly when playing games.

If the problem started after you upgraded your drivers....

This would be the place to start. Just select the "previous driver" of your videocard in device management in your control panel ! (Don't have an english version so I don't know if I got the expressions right)

No, it didn't work. The old drivers used to work with my HDDVD rip of Van Helsing, but it looks like the driver isn't the issue. So, do you know what else it could be? Also what player do you use for playback of your HDDVD's?

- can you watch any other HD DVD? Is this "300" only you cannot watch?

- Do you have hardware acceleration enabled in PowerDVD? If so, disable it. And vice versa, if you have it disabled, try to enable it.

- repeat a fresh install of the OS with the "previous" video card drivers which used to work for you.

I have absolutely no problems with "300", there is nothing special about this HD DVD it terms of AACS version /keys or the structure of the HD DVD as far as I can tell.

Well, I've only have backup copies of Van Helsing and 300, but 300 plays fine off the disk. Also how do I check the Hardware Acceleration? And one thing, wat software do you use for playback and decrypting?

I use PowerDVD 7.3 buld 2911 for the playback.

I used AnyDVD HD to back up the original HD DVD to HDD, but I am pretty sure Ken's program works as well, AnyDVD HD is just little more convenient to use. BTW, AnyDVD HD has 21 day free trial period, if you think your rip is no good you might try to download AnyDVD HD and rip with it.

Can you play Van Helsing from HDD all right?

To check / uncheck hardware acceleration, right-click on PowerDVD screen, select "Configuration", then "Video" tab. Hardware acceleration is the very first checkbox on that screen.

Oh, I actually did find Hardware Acceleration, and it was Enabled so I Disabled it, but when I play the movie file off my hard drive, it automatically enabled it again and grayed it. So I do beleive that this may be the cause as you said, the only problem is how can I keep it disabled while it plays?

Also Ken's Soft for PowerDVD is the one with the patch that updates PowerDVD with all the new keys so thats why I though that was the problem in the beggining. And I've already used AnyDVD HD for my third try, but that was before I re-installed windows, so I'll give it another shot. One more thing, which build of PowerDVD is better, the patched one or yours because if your build is better I can just re-install PowerDVD abd return it to that version.

I am not using nvidia, just onboard Radeon 1250. No Vista, just XP.

I am about 90% sure your problem is with nvidia drivers.

Other things to try: on the Video Tab screen click "Advanced" and try different types of the deinterlacing.

You still did not answer the question: can you play your second HD DVD rip from HDD all right?

I have the Xbox360 HD-DVD player, Nvidia 8800GTX, Dell 24" LCD (yes, HDCP), Vista 32-bit, Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra 7.3.

When I try to play King Kong, everything works fine.

When I try to play 300, it just doesn't work. It doesn't do anything. I hit play and nothing happens.

You said you had Van Helsing ripped to the HDD. Can you play it now without problems?

- download it;

- install it;

- reboot the computer;

- put in your "300" HD DVD;

- close PowerDVD when it opens and starts to play the HD DVD;

- right-click on the AnyDVD HD icon in the right-hand bottom corner (system tray);

- select "Rip DVD to the hard drive;

- wait until it is done;

- start PowerDVD, select "Play movie from the hard drive and point it to the folder where you ripped your HD DVD.

I have just one quetsion: That is why does my hard drive lose .3gb everytime i play an hd dvd off my hard drive?

Also I never get that space back, evn if I clear the cache and do disk clean up.

Check your /Temp directories in /Windows, /Windows32, /Documents and Settings etc.

Yes I Did all of that before I made the post. Also I actually monitored my hard drive while I started the movie and once it played I lost .3gb. I tried this 3 times and every time I lost it. I also used the program DirectorySize to monito it and it showed no change which surprised me. Also what can I delete in /Windows and /System32 because I delete everything that thought wasn't needed and didn't know about the rest. I also did Open Disk Cleanup in Vista. So can you please tell me whats wrong?
