Hello. This is my first post ever on Doom9, so please bear with me.
PROBLEM: VC-1 (WVC1) playback in WMP 11
SYSTEM: Core2 X6800, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA 7950 GT, Windows XP MCE 2005 SP2, WMP 11 with WMF 11 (uninstalled/installed x2!!!), and WME 9 installed
ISSUES:
1) I can play any VC-1 file straight from Bluray or HDDVD in PowerDVD Ultra just fine, no stutter, no problems, CPU usage of ~30% (both CPUs). This is with just NVIDIA PureVideo and the Cyberlink decoders.
2) If I try to play back any VC-1 file straight from the hard drive, in WMP 11, I get a "freeze" for like 45 seconds, then finally playback but just audio (NVIDIA audio decoder activates)...SPDIF passthru...
3) If I install Haali media splitter, then the file plays. BUT--it is with all kinds of video artifacts, like really weird blocks/ghosting, audio is fine. CPU usage around 30%.
4) If I install ffdshow and Haali, then the video plays fine BUT through many portions of playback it is quite jumpy/stuttering. One CPU stays at 0% and the other at like 80-100%. This is with libavcodec or wmp9 selected for VC-1 files under the ffdshow decoder options.
5) Problem still happens as in #2 above with just ffdshow, without Haali.
6) I can playback the file from disk without Haali or ffdshow in the PowerDVD player but it is very stuttery.
7) Changing various options of the various decoders doesn't seem to help. I even tried WMV Powertoy.
8) I tried graphedit shenanigans--I am a noob there--but my outcomes were basically as above. I couldn't get the Cyberlink VC-1 decoder to do anything except audio in Graphedit.
9) If I use the WMV-test.exe file posted here a few posts back, and I am in scenario #2, nothing happens; i.e., the utility fails and indicates I do not have the proper decoders. If I install Haali/ffdshow, the utility works. If I uninstall ffdshow/Haali, I can still playback the test pattern color bar .WMV (WVC1, I assume) file in WMP 11 that the utility creates!!!
OK, that's it.
Any help, I will be indebted to you.
