Detecting Field Blended Stuff (i.e. anime)

Ok bare with me if you will, i am in need of help with detecting wether an anime for example has been field blended i remember reading that this can be done buy viewing the source in vd with ether Bob or SeparateFields in the avs script is this correct ?

Do some of you guys have some examples i can look at please...

The reason i ask is thus, i dont buy nones of anime but when i do i would rather not have something that is field blended, i know one solutions is to just buy the R1 versions but if its a proper pal transfer like dead leaves,blood and gits 1st giga then i would rather get the pal version because its cheaper for me.

Heres a frame from karas (http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o176/jedi_master_yoda/karas.jpg) using dgbob, is this field blended ?? Don't use an adaptive Bob for this! It will change the source field contents. Use standard Bob(). SeparateFields() is OK, too, but you'll get half height video. Just use either and if you see any frames that look like blends of two pictures, then you have blended fields.

I can't get to sites like that at work. Does it appear to be a blending of two pictures?

yea, it seems the image in the middle is blended together from the upper and the lower image...

I just has a look at guyver ( new series R1 version) which is interlaced using SeparateFields() and theres no sign(to be expected with a R1 anime to my knowlegde) of that ghosting like in the second image of karas, although i did check my SF Alpha which is NTSC R0 which is interlaced but i did actually see some form of ghosting..

Any anime that is sold as region 0 is bootleg / fake / repackaged / copied, almost without exception.

Seeing as your a UK user, i'd advise you to AVOID buying anything especially from UK2USA.net as these people are a prime example of people buying in cheap fake imports from east-asian countries and trying to pass them off as "genuine".

You can usually tell a fake from the packaging. The absense of studio copyrights, national copyrights, card-in-plastic sleeve releases, poor colour and image detail on the cover, or anything with "made in Thailand" on it are also indicative of a bootleg.

I was burnt with 6 different titles from this very retailer, advertised as "region-0". It's easy to get All-region anime confused with lack of encryption protection.

Every anime DVD i've bought that was region-0 was not protected, but at the same time also proved to be a bootleg and of lower quality than an official R1 release.

And if you buy PAL (Region-2), avoid anything from Madman studios, as these are invariably field blended, which is just as inferior to a good R1 edition, as a bootleg is to the original.

One such example is Tenchi-Muyo Ryo-Ohki from MVM entertainment (A madman PAL release). Hard Telecined source which has been field blended from NTSC to PAL.

EDIT: While i'd like to support the UK anime scene, ADV have closed their UK office, Manga Entertainment haven't had any worthwhile updates to their DVD catalogue in years, and the others aren't much better. MVM have a good selection, but again, your dicing with peril in what you actually recieve. It's a lot simpler to just order from amazon.com, get a genuine R1 release that you can transcode easily and take a risk on getting stung for import duty IMHO. Alternatively, get a genuine import from otaku.co.uk. Note, these people were always on the level in years gone by, but it would seem sometimes they offer region-0 bootlegs too, so check what your buying is R1 beforehand.
