coding tech aac vs nero aac for encoding 5.1 ac3 via automkv

which is more preferable? i want quality as close to the ac3 as possible whilst having significantly file size savings

I don't know which settings are used in automkv but both encoders are good for a bitrate target around 128+ kbps...
