Hi,
The new RealPlayer has a record option for streaming videos. Surprisingly, it can record some videos that no other utilities currently do.
It saves the videos in a format they call Internet Video Recording (.IVR). The doc says some streamed files may take a lot of CPU for the transcoding into .IVR. I've noticed that streamed videos in .RM format are saved with absolutely no load on the CPU which tells me that .RM format doesn't get transcoded at all and that .IVR format is almost identical to .RM.
.IVR has no inherent DMR built in. Maybe there are optional provisions but all the videos I've recorded so far, play just fine in RealPlayer on other PCs.
I can't find any programs that can edit or convert .IVR files. And it seems RealPlayer is the only program that even can play them at the moment. I need to extract some short clips from the videos for "fair use" reviews of the contents.
Anyone know of a program to convert them to a more mainstream format or even to regular .RM?
If not, do you know anyone working on one?
And if not, who will be the one to capture the market? ;-)
