I recently installed an LG GSA-H55N (replacing my old CD drive)

Mostly it works fine. It will write to DVR+RW and DVD-RW (Imation). However it won't write to DVD+R or DVD-R. First I tried Imation DVD+/-R (on a spindle - I suppose they could be fake?). Then I tried Ikon DVD+R - same result.

I have tried writing with Nero, and LG's own software (both provided with the drive). I have tried copying DVDs and creating my own from mpeg. Every time - same result. Drive is active for about 15 seconds then stops. When I cancel the operation the drive becomes active again. When I eject the disk I find about 5% of it has been written to. I now have more coasters than coffee mugs.

LG technical support only suggestion was to upgrade firmware and uninstall/reinstall the driver. I did both - no change.

I have tried formatting disks with InCD (also supplied with the drive). Works fine on +RW and -RW, but on +R and -R I get a message 'failed due to license restriction'. I tried uninstalling InCD and Nero, but didn't cure the problem.

I'd be really grateful for any suggestions (apart from buy more coffee mugs)

I had very bad experiences with Imation. Never touched them since. Better stick with proven media (Verbatim, TY).

Or buy a coffee machine :) (sorry, could not resist).

Thanks for this advice GF. So far I haven't found these brands locally (I'm working in Middle East) but I look for them when I go home.

Appreciate your advice
