I was under the impression that the DVB-C spec might not allow for 1080p, so the maximum transmission that cable operators did was 1080i. I was almost certain that DVB-T didn't allow for 1080p broadcasts. However, it has been a while, and the information that I've found while searching doesn't seem to clearly define which is allowed in one or the other. Can someone provide reference for me?

Also, I was under the impression that while all of the DVB-C operators only transmit up to 1080i, that they do transmit 1080p material by using an RFF flag and whatever other standard mechanisms in MPEG-2. But a decent decoder would pick up on this and output 1080p, and what is output by the decoder would be much better than the display attempting to reconstruct it from the 1080i signal.

It's been a while though, and somebody recently called bullocks on me, so I'm curious how much I've gotten wrong.
