Well, I can't seem to figure this out nor find an answer anywhere.

Many different sites are using Flash but the flash player links to a WMV file and uses the flash player to play it.

I believe it is a way to hide the real links of the videos they play but I've been on a few of these sites that do this (Blastro.com, Yahoo! LAUNCH) and with a Windows Media Recording program figure out the link to the WMV file.

When I open the video to play on the website, this program automatically detects the WMV being played and gives me a link.

How is this done???

Hi!I believe it is a way to hide the real links of the videos they playIf you are correct, this is likely being done in an effort to prevent copying of copyrighted material. If this is the case, it would be inappropriate for you to ask here about circumventing this protection...

I think it's more driven by the encoding speed, compression efficiency, and lower cost of WMV encoding versus Flash.

Ever try to license VP6 for enterprise encoding? On2 wants four figures per encoder. Plus they're only single-threaded.
