DVDfab error reading

I have been using dvdfab to back-up my movies and each time I begin to use the software regardless of whether I pick and choose sections of the movie or I choose 'main film' and error message will come up saying 'error reading' and it gives me the option to 'ignore' or 'ignore all.' I always choose 'ignore all' but then when I go to watch the film there are little split second glitches randomly throughout the film. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? clean the dvd

It sounds like there is either something wrong with the dvd or the dvd drive. You shouldn't get any errors reading the disc - if you do, you might want to consider returning the disc (that's what I do on the rare occasion that I have gotten errors). Unless this happens with all your disc's, of course.

it is doing it with every single dvd I back up using dvdfabdecrypter. It says 'error while reading! please choose what to do? retry...abort...ignore...ignore all' and I always choose ignore all. When I do this the film has a little glitch in all the places that there is an error read. Anyone else have further suggestions?

Hi!it is doing it with every single dvd I back up using dvdfabdecrypter.Are these recently purchased NEW DVDs, recently purchased USED DVDs, or DVDs that you purchased some time ago?

I ask this because, other than on rare occasion (bad pressing), NEW DVDs should not create this situation under DVDFab Decrypter - whereas OLD and/or USED DVDs certainly could create this situation.

A silly question, perhaps, but I'll ask it anyway:

Are you actually using "DVDFab Decrypter" or "DVD Decrypter"?

If, in fact, you are using DVDFab Decrypter and are running into this problem with recently purchased NEW DVDs, your DVD reader/burner may be at fault.

1) Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on it. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US

2) If possible, slow down the read speed

3) Select "Retry" instead of "Ignore all"

These would be recently purchased used dvds that are newer films. For example, I bought Stranger than Fiction and had problems with it. I bought Pan's Labrynth and had the same problem with it. I also had the same problem with Happily N'Ever After. I have been using DVDFab decrypter because dvd decrypter will not allow me to actually put the copied files on the disc if I choose to skip a file that it gets stuck on.
I will try the cleaning methos, but the discs that I am putting in are not in bad shape at all and the problem happens consistently within the first couple of seconds of dvdfab decrypter processing the film. I will try the slower speed thing as well and see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestions!

A couple of things:
- What version of Dvdfab decrypter are you using? Try the latest verison: http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
Note: Its not called DVDfab HD decrypter. This newer version covers both DVD's and HD type DVD's (blu-ray HD DVD). Its just a slight name change when they added the high definition capability!

- Is your DVD drive itself clean? Its vital that DVD's and CD's are clean before they are put in the drive. Even 'house dust' on the DVD surface can cause problems if it gets on to the DVD lens... You can't really tell if its clean or not, you can onyl surmise that its clean by always making sure the disks are clean!

- It could be an IDE driver issue, this is the hardest thing to explain how to rectify, especially if you don't know what I'm talking about!
