pgcedit question on splitting dvd

I've followed jsoto's advice on using vobblanker on splitting a dvd into 2 dvd, first using vobblanker, then using pgcedit. The result was a success. The second disk worked well. However, on the first disk, after playing through cells before the break, my dvd player was playing a series of blank black cells. Is there a way to delete these cells in pgcedit? Ideally, after playing the movies, I like it to revert back to the main menu.

I appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you in advance.

It is possible, but not recommended to delete the blank cells, as deleting them will probably change the chapter numbers, and the chapter menu will not behave correctly any more.

To skip the playback of the tiny cells, you can use a cell command.

For example, assuming your movie has 20 cells, and the first 10 were blanked on disc 2, you can add this cell command in the PGC: LinkCN Cell 11. (Where 11 is the number of thye first non-black cell.)
Note the number of the cell command. Then, using the PGC Editor, change the cell command number of the first 10 black cells to the number of the command you have just added. The seamless joint flag of the cell following a cell command must be clear (but that should be the case anyway as VobBlanker clears them automatically for another reason.)

Similarly, on disc 1, to skip the black cells at the end of part 1, add this post command: LinkTailPGC, and assign it to the last non-black cell and to all black cells.

Verify in trace mode and with a software player.

Reading your post, I gather I have to edit the cell command for disc 1. Should I use the "add after" function - similar to the disk 2 procedure?

Yes. Only the cell command and the cells to modify are different.

Thank you for your advice. Both of my DVDs work very well. I do have a question on your advice. You suggested to use LinkCN Cell and 2Cool's advice is to you LinkPTT Cell. I tested both and the result came out the same. Is there any difference between the two?

Also, as a newbie question, is there a "dummy" guide to understand all the features of pcgedit?

LinkPTT requires the target cell to be a chapter

And you can also use LinkPG (target = Program #)

A general guide about PgcEdit is still "in project". ;)
The most important thing to know to use PgcEdit it is the DVD-Video standard, and especially the VM commands. You can learn that with books (Ralph LaBarge's DVD Authoring and Production and Jim Taylor's DVD Demystified) or web sites like DVD Replica (http://www.dvd-replica.com/DVD/index.php).
BTW, to learn about a specific VM command, just click on the button with the command name and a thin border in the command editor. The right page at DVD Replica will be opened automatically in your web browser.
