The Best streaming format?

Hey!

A while ago I asked in the DivX4 forum if it's possible to stream DivX4, the answer was NO since there is no format to support streaming for a DivX4 file. So I'm windering what's the best format to stram with? I want to stream via mya tv-card on my network so my neighbour fir example can see those tv-channels that he doesn't have..-.and I want to stream it at the best possible quality.

P4 1.7 ghz
512 Mb RAM
WinTV DVB-t digital-terestrial tv-card. (captures the mpeg-2 stream directly from digital transmissions)

RealVideo 8 is the best for video with solid 'blocks' of colours e.g. cartoons see Lukesvideo (www.geocities.com/lukesvideo) for info... and he's got a codec comparasion with the pros and cons of streamable codecs. As for movies, probably Windows Media 8 (egh.. I hate to say that). But as you want streaming TV, the best would have to be RealVideo 8, as it produces the least artifacts at low bitrates.

Low bitrates aren't needed at all. I want to stream it on my LAN wich is at 100 mbit/s. So I want the best quality possible that my computer can handle in real time...so windows media 8 may be the one then....is this for free ?

Yes all free, but RealProducer 8 Gold is not, the basic version is and it contains probably all you need if you go via that route.

actualy divx4 can be streamed.
divx4.com had link to some porn site that streamed divx4 movies..but for some reason they req you to use playa

hm... that's new to me. But even if it's streamable I guess one can't encode from a live source and stream directly?
