I now use x264 to encode my videos, but the problem is that it take so long (more than 14 hours using 2pass and some Avisynth filters..)to encode that I have to leave the computer on while I sleep. The problem is that my computer resides in my bedroom and the noise the CPU fan makes disturb my sleep. So, Now I want to turn of the computer at night. The question is: Would it be possible to resume encoding after I turn off my computer?

Some possibilities:
1. Hibernate or Standby will pause it and it'll resume when you turn the computer back on.
2. Process Explorer lets you pause ("suspend") processes; however the computer won't go into standby or hibernate until you resume the process.
3. No, you can't shut down the computer altogether, only hibernate/standby.

I found this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-94410.html) that may or may not help. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I sure hope it works. If/when I try it, I'll post the results.

Tested; It works, at least in a single-pass mode (CRF). I assume it'll work in other single-pass modes as well.
