I ripped my hd-dvd Pitch Black onto my hard drive. I merged the .ts files together, and have no problem playing them in WMP and in Media Center. The problem is I cannot stream them to my xbox 360, it just says codec missing. They are VC1 files. I can play the MPEG2 files from other movies, but these don't work.
I have tried converting them to a wmv file with WME Assistant, but came up with the same problem - ie, plays fine on computer but no go on the 360.
Can I convert VC1 to an mpeg without losing the HD aspect of it?

Operating System: MCE2005 - all updates
Extender: Xbox 360
Hardwired through Router
I currently can stream the following:
1) Without Transcoding: DVR-MS, MPEG, WMV, TS (MPEG ONLY)
2) Using Transcode360: AVI, DIVX, MKV
My HD rips of TS files that are not MPEG2 will not stream to my 360, even through transcoding. They will play on my computer, in WMP and in Media Center - This tells me I have the proper codecs. I have tried to convert the TS files to a WMV container, but the 360 will still not play them. The new WMV file will play on the computer, WMP & Media Center, just not on the 360. Can anyone help on how to make this happen?

I think you dont understand..you CANT play VC1 with the Extender.
Only the DashboardPalyer can play VC1 Content and this only in wmv container
The MediCenter Extender can only play WMV9 MP, and this only in WMV container too.
TransportStreams with Mpeg and AC3 only..
The whole VC1 Updates are only for the Dashbaord ..not for the Extender
For reencoding youve 2 Options
1. Encode HDDVD/Bluray to WVC1 720p or 1080p .Playback with Dashbaordplayer from DVD or WMP11 Stream
2. Encode it to Mpeg2 1080p with ProCoder. Playback via MEediaCenter to Extender Stream
And ofcourse you can keep most of the Quality when you know how to encode

To make sure I understand you correctly, I can do the following:
1) Convert the container to wmv that has the vc1 file and stream it to the 360 dashboard, not through the extender.
or
2) Use ProCoder to convert the vc1 file to an mpeg2 file.
Should this work, I do appreciate the help, it has been driving me nuts.

yes, but i dont know a way to mux VC1 into wmv.
And when its possible...360 Dashbaord Playback is very unsafe cause The Bitrate of a 1080p HDDVDStream is to high for smooth Playback
The MediaCenter Extender cant play VC1 (or WMV9 AP),yep
As is say you have 2 Options
1. Encode VC1 to WVC1 with WMCMD.vbs.
2. ENcode VC1 to Mpeg2 TS with ProCoder
3. encode it to 1080p x264...what is the best choice of all to keep max Quality imho. Hook up your PC to a HD Display via DVI/VGA/YUV, so youve no Problems with any Codecs/Containers

Actually the extender supports VC-1, but the decoder is really old and does not handle HD very well. The decoder in the dashboard is much more optimized.

As i say..not updated while the Dashboard Decoder is updated
Its a older WMV 9 Advanced Profile Decoder
However..Xbox360 cant play VC1 in TS.
Not via MCE ,not in Dashboard

Actually, things are different if you use Vista Media Center with the Xbox 360. I recently upgraded my computer, and now I can stream a VC-1 file to the 360 with no problems (in media center, not just the dashboard). It plays great. TS container with vc-1 file can now be streamed to the extender media center, or convert it to wmv container and play in dashboard. Essentially, I don't have to convert anymore. Vista Media Center combined with the 360 is so much better than MCE2005.

Did you manage to get mpeg2 .ts to stream via the extender in Vista? If so, how? I'm having problems with this now after 18 months of flawless playback on MCE2005...

Last I read Zune can't play WMV-HD files. It can only play videos with a resolution of 320x240 or below.

So to get a .TS file with VC1 video and AC3 audio, you only had to upgrade to vista media center and thats all?
