View Full Version : Auto GK and Xvid 1.1.3

I have been using an older version of XviD until very recently, and I have gotten perfect results with Auto GK. I upgraded to ver 1.1.3 (which gspot identifies as ver 1.1.2 Final) of Xvid recently and have problems with Auto GK.

Specifically, I use the custom size option to control the desired quality and size of the rip. The size and the kbps and Qf, along with BVOP, NVOP, etc all came out fine. Now, the size comes out at 1/2 the size I designate, and the kbps and the Qf are also at 1/2 where they should be. Also the BVOP, NVOP, etc are also missing in the final .avi file.

The only thing I found in a search of the forum was to try a reinstall of the codec. I tried that to no avail.

I have made 2 logs available, if anyone would like to view them. The first is a log using my old ver of XviD. I used a small raw mpeg to try and figure out this problem. It can be found: here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NJEWOADY)
The next log is using the same raw mpeg after I tried the reinstall of the codec and I got the exact same results as the first install. It can be found:here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GB0IMA4E)

Because I am ripping mpeg files, using the full ver of GK and gaining control of VDubMod is not an option. I know that there are other programs out there to use that will allow me access to the codec settings and eliminate this problem, but I like Auto GK and would like to continue using it.

Any help would be appreciated and I will thank you in advance for you help.

this can happen if you install two different versions of xvid.

uninstall all versions, remove all dlls and clear the registry, then
reinstall xvid.

FishTank: I am only moderately tech savvy with ripping, but if what you mentioned as a possible cause was the case, would I be able to use another prog and get good results?

I did do an unistall of the old codec before I installed the new one. But more importantly, I have done a rip with the new codec in StaxRip and gotten perfect results with none of the problems I identified in my original post. Of course in StaxRip I have the ability to go into the codec configuration and make sure the settings are correct for the first and second pass.

It's like with Auto GK now there is some disconnect between the prog and the codec configs for the passes that wasn't there with the old codec.

Again, this is just an amateur's observation.

well if it is the codec to blame, then that wouldnt help.
iirc, it doesnt have to effect EVERY encode.

i only read that, and i cant find the topic :/
i remember it, because i have 2 versions of xvid installed myself
and figured id be a lucky bugger not to have that problem lol.

if you did uninstall xvid prior to installing the new version, then there
should be no problem.
maybe AGK has a problem with the new version. maybe someone
else has tried that and could confirm or deny that fact?!

i myself still use 1.2 that comes with AGK.

good luck :)

If you want to update Xvid for AutoGK, then use:
http://tirnanog.fate.jp/mirror/XviD/xvid.cvs.head.MTK.2007.06.29.7z
Contains the same bugfix that prompted the 1.1.3 release.
