I am really debating getting a PS3. Right now at Circuit City with their credit card and a code you get the PS3, Wireless controller, 5 Blu-Ray Movies (not the best, limited choices) and no interest until 2009. If I played games I would be all over this, but my game playing is limited.

On the other hand for $500 there are the Blu-Ray burners, by several people, but I don't think I will use the burner part.

Lastly there is the soon to be available Pioneer PC Blu-Ray player / DVD burner for about $300.

My thinking on leaning towards the PS3 is that in the long term it will hold a larger percent of it's value for resale over the other 2 choices. Where the PS3 may loose 50% in value the others would most likely be in the 90% plus area.

Tough choice for me. If my main goal is to play / backup Blu-Ray disks what would you (and why) lean towards?

Thanks,
Mark

play / backup Blu-Ray disks what would you (and why) lean towards? If the latter is important to you, stay as far away from Blu-ray as possible - no other system even gets close in terms of technology that is aimed at preventing you from making backups. Nobody can at this time make any claims as to the "backup-ability" of BD+ titles so worst case scenario, you'll be able to back up all titles until say fall or Christmas season, and then it's game over.
